What services does Medicare Part B cover?

Medicare Part B covers physician services, out-patient hospital care, physical therapy, ambulance trips, durable medical equipment, prostheses and some home health care.

What are the Medicare Part B premium/deductible amounts for 2003?

The Part B premium is $58.70/month (2003). The Part B deductible is $100/year (2003).

What is the patient’s co-pay for Part B Medicare?

The Patient’s co-payment for Part B (out-of-pocket expense) is 20%. If medical providers charge more than the Medicare approved charge, the out of pocket expense can be higher. Medicare pays an amount determined to be a reasonable charge. Physicians can impose excess charges above the reasonable charge. The current limitation on the excess charges is 115% of the Medicare reasonable charge. Some doctors accept the Medicare approved charge.

There is no limit on the number of physicians visits and other services provided under Medicare Part B as long as the services are medically necessary.
